A spoiler has come to light according a new report ahead of next week’s AEW tournament semi-final match involving Kenny Omega.
Omega was set to be up against Rey Fenix after the former beat Sonny Kiss (who replaced Joey Janela due to COVID-19 exposure) and the latter beat his own brother Penta El Zero M.
However, it’s since been reported that Fenix picked up an injury during that match after landing on his head on an inverted top-rope frankensteiner.
As a result of this, Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Penta actually wrestled Omega in the semi-final instead. The match was taped along with all of next week’s show on Thursday, October 22.
The winner of that will face either ‘Hangman’ Adam Page or Wardlow which is the other semi-final, after they both advanced through the quarters by beating Colt Cabana and Jungle Boy respectively. The tournament concludes at Full Gear with the winner earning a World Title shot.
We at WrestleTalk.com continue to send our best wishes to Fenix and hope he has a safe recovery. We will of course be providing live coverage of next week’s Dynamite here on the site, which will be the penultimate episode before Full Gear.
