Big E Reveals How Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods Reacted To His Singles Push

Big E has recently opened up about his singles push, and how Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods reacted to the news that he was going solo.

He was part of The New Day since 2014, so going solo was a big change for the former powerlifter. After being the powerhouse of the trio for 6 years, Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods developed a close friendship.

It has been revealed that Kingston and Woods had nothing but good things to say when they found out E was pursuing a singles career.

Speaking on Oral Sessions with Renée Paquette, Big E noted that his friends were genuinely excited for the future of the former NXT Champion.

Big E talked about his appreciation for Kingston and Woods, who were always supportive in a business where most prefer to look after themselves.

Here’s what he said:

“They’ve always been supportive and I always appreciate that. Woods was out at the time when we first did the singles stuff, but Kofi was there, and as soon as we both heard together, he was so genuinely happy for me and excited about whatever would come.

I can’t imagine being in a group with two more selfless people and that’s what I’ve always appreciated – it can be easy in this business to be selfish and to just worry about your own push, but I love the fact that we’re always so genuinely supportive of each other and our projects, whether they be in WWE or outside of the company whatever it is. They were there for me and I appreciated that.”

From the gaming brand UpUpDownDown, and their podcast, New Day: Feel The Power, E, Kingston and Woods have many successful projects outside of the ring.

Big E also talked about Kofi’s WWE Championship run, and how he was pleased that The New Day played the role that it did. Noting that he learned a lot about the responsibilities of being the top guy, Big E said the following:

“I think one of the things that I really respected was that Kofi, there were so many times where he could have just made it about himself, and he was still always trying to include the three of us. And that I really appreciated because it was his moment honestly and we were fortunate enough to be along for the ride.

“I’m glad we got to do the storyline with the tag team gauntlet match where we got to kind of get Kofi into (the WrestleMania WWE Title match). And the reaction to that was really cool too. In wrestling it’s always about which faction member’s going to screw the other and it was cool because we never do real moments of brotherhood and sacrificing for the other. So that was cool. And just seeing how hard he worked, in and out of the ring, like he was on all the time. He was on everything, just always doing media and seeing him always do it with a smile on his face and never complain was something that I always remember.

“I think the night he won the title, I don’t think he slept at all, and not because he was out partying, but because he was up and then by the time he got done with everything, he went back to the room, and then I think they had him do the Today Show, or some morning show, and the whole morning media.

“And we’re on SmackDown – I think SmackDown was supposed to be later during that week – and they called him in to Raw. So instead of having Monday to decompress after doing all this media, ‘No, we need you on Raw, you’ve this promo seg and this match’. So he was just constantly going. You never see him shaken or upset. I don’t know how that’s possible.”

After hearing about how the trio support each other, It’s nice to hear that “Power of Positivity” is more than just a wrestling gimmick for them.

Big E found success quickly after resuming his singles career, winning the Intercontinental Championship on the Christmas Day edition of Smackdown.

Big E will compete in the 30-man Royal Rumble match this Sunday.
