Big Future Plans For WWE Wrestlepalooza Revealed

TKO President Mark Shapiro has revealed WWE’s lofty aims for the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event after its debut instalment.

While it was previously synonymous with ECW in the late 1990s, Wrestlepalooza will make its debut as a WWE PLE on Saturday, September 20 from Indianapolis, Indiana’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The show will be a significant one for WWE for many reasons, with it hosting the first WWE match in 10 years for AJ Lee, the in-ring return of Brock Lesnar following a two year absence from the company and with it also being the first PLE to stream exclusively on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer streaming platform in the United States.

Speaking at the Godman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference on Wednesday September 10, TKO President Mark Shapiro highlighted the company’s goals for Wrestlepalooza to become a mainstay of WWE’s PLE calendar going forward, and even potentially reach the level of WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

Shaprio said:

“Hopefully Wrestlepalooza is a winner and we can bring that back annually, because that could just be a marketing bonanza for us if we do that right.

“Triple H is spending night and day creatively around making that what we think it can be, which is another WrestleMania or another SummerSlam.

“Those two stand out above the rest, Royal Rumble is right beneath that, and we think Wrestlepalooza can get into that quadrant.”
