Tonight’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX at the ThunderDome saw a big, and perhaps surprising, title change.
Jeff Hardy is the new Intercontinental Champion after defeating AJ Styles in the final match on the show.
In the very first segment, RETRIBUTION invaded and the SmackDown locker room emptied to fend them off. However, Styles took this opportunity to attack Hardy from behind and weaken him ahead of their match.
Hardy received medical attention throughout the night, and was given a leg brace and cleared to compete.
The brace came into play as he sneakily used it as a weapon, following up with a Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb for the win.
This marks Hardy’s fifth reign with the title. His most recent before now was September 2007 to March 2008.
