Ric Flair was released by WWE in August 2021, after the Nature Boy requested his departure.
The assumption at the time was that he would be joining AEW, likely as a manager for now son-in-law Andrade El Idolo. These rumours increased in intensity after Flair appeared at AAA TripleMania to help Andrade in a match against Kenny Omega he would ultimately end up losing.
While this hasn’t been confirmed, it is thought the release of an episode of Dark Side of the Ring, which focused on the infamous “Plane Ride From Hell” led to AEW changing their minds about bringing Flair in. During the documentary, a number of accusations of alleged sexual harassment were made against Flair.
Following the accusations, Flair was removed from the video which opens all WWE shows, and he’s been involved in Twitter fights with Becky Lynch over the use of “The Man” nickname.
Furthermore, Dave Meltzer reported shortly after Flair’s departure from WWE that Ric had been frustrated with his daughter Charlotte’s booking, and had gone as far as sending a text message to Vince McMahon to complain about her creative.
At the very start of last night’s Raw, many people noticed that Flair has actually been added back to WWE’s intro video, after which, he tweeted:
The Most Hurtful Moment In My ENTIRE Career Was Losing My Spot. Thank You So Much For Giving Me Back My Dignity & My Life! @WWE @VinceMcMahon #WWERaw

Ric Flair return confirmed…?
Flair is currently preparing for what is being billed as his final wrestling match, on July 31 at Starrcast. There have been a number of names speculated for his opponent or opponents for the match, but nothing has been announced as of writing.
