A big update has emerged on plans to bring NXT stars Gunther and Marcel Barthel to the WWE main roster.

Fightful  had previously reported that there had been internal discussions to bring two thirds of Imperium to either Raw or SmackDown, leaving Fabian Aichner in NXT.

Per the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Gunther and Barthel will likely arrive on the main roster as singles stars, with WWE discussing plans to break the group up.

Noting that this is why Imperium recently debuted a new theme, Dave Meltzer wrote:

“The Imperium theme was also changed this past week, but that’s because the plan was to break the group up with Gunther and Marcel Barthel moving to the main roster, and not going as a team or unit and likely on different brands”

Fightful had noted that SmackDown had been a heavily discussed destination, however it is unclear which star SmackDown has been discussed for, if not both.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

On this week’s edition of NXT, Aichner walked out on Barthel during their tag-team match against the Creed Brothers, and Gunther unsuccessfully challenged for Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship, losing his first bout since officially moving to the US brand.
