Blake Monroe Reveals ‘Big Reason’ She Wanted To Sign With WWE WWE

Blake Monroe has revealed a “big reason” she wanted to sign with WWE and why specifically starting in NXT has benefitted her.

After a massively successful two years in AEW which saw her become AEW Women’s World Champion and engage in a critically acclaimed feud with “Timeless” Toni Storm, Mariah May arrived in WWE under the new name Blake Monroe in June 2025.

During an interview with Notsam Wrestling, Monroe addressed going from a “match of the year wrestler” to WWE NXT:

“I wouldn’t call myself a match of the year wrestler. I appreciate when people say that, but for me, I’m always like what can I do better? One of the big reasons I wanted to come to WWE was because the women’s division is so deep…

“They really put an emphasis on their women. So that was a really attractive point for me. But also NXT, I wanted to train more. I knew there were areas of my work that I wasn’t happy with and there were areas that I’m naturally good at.

“We had a little bit of a conversation about it, but no, we never had to sit down and be like, ‘Hey you need to train or humble yourself.’ It’s sort of juts like they gave me my schedule, I guess it was kind of like, I wonder how she’s going to do and I turned up and they seemed really happy with that.

“I mean it’s all about timing too with the whole match of the year thing. I think people expect that every match will be a match of the year. That doesn’t exist. It’s about time and story and the right partner.”

Monroe has one WWE title reign to her name as she approaches her first full year in the company, with the former AEW star holding the NXT Women’s North American Championship for 52 days.

“The Glamour” saw her reign end at the hands of Thea Hail in what was reported afterwards to be a botched finish – click here for Monroe’s latest comments on that result.
