An update has emerged on the status of Hikuleo in WWE following reports that the former NJPW star is under contract.
The brother of Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa has reportedly been on the WWE internal roster “for months” having signed back in June 2024.
Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on the status of Hikuleo in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
According to Meltzer, Hikuleo has been training in Orlando, the home of the WWE Performance Center, and is indeed under contract.
He would also confirm that a decision had been made to not use him in WWE NXT at the moment.
Meltzer compared it to the way that Braun Strowman was used ahead of his main roster debut, writing:
“Hikuleo is under contract and has been training in Orlando. The decision has simply been made not to use him in NXT at this time.
“Years ago they had the same mentality with Strowman, where he wasn’t featured much (he did make cameos in group scenes) in NXT so as to debut him with impact on the main roster.”
Strowman signed with WWE in early 2013 but wouldn’t make his debut until December 2014 at an NXT live event.
In between his signing and debut, he featured as a Rosebud in Adam Rose’s Exotic Express only making his official main roster debut in August 2015.
Strowman would debut as a member of The Wyatt Family leading to his first televised match on August 31, beating Dean Ambrose on WWE Raw.
As previously reported, Hikuleo and fellow Bloodline family member Lance Anoa’i have both been training at the WWE Performance Center.
