Last week, WWE announced big changes to their announce teams for Raw, SmackDown and NXT. The shift saw NXT regular Wade Barrett move up to SmackDown to fill in for Pat McAfee while he is away hosting ESPN’s College GameDay.
In Barrett’s place on NXT will be WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, who has been a commentator for WWE on and off since 2011.
During his original stint on commentary for SmackDown in 2011, Booker became notorious for having a ‘fave five’, his five favourite wrestlers to watch every week. The list ironically included Barrett himself, Daniel Bryan, and like 48 other wrestlers.
Ahead of the start of his announcing duties on NXT, Booker T spoke on his Hall of Fame podcast about up and coming wrestlers in the industry he has his eye on.
Booker named:
“My man Carmelo Hayes.”
I am sure we will learn Booker’s NXT fave five over the next few weeks, but there are apparently only 4 spots left on the podium, as he said about Hayes:
“I’m so glad that I’m gonna be close to this kid, because you talk about a next-level superstar in ‘NXT.’ He’s already in the ‘fave five;’ he checks every box.”
WWE has announced a new number one contender’s match for tonight’s show, pitting Briggs & Jensen agaist the Dyad and Enofe & Blade for a future shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship.
