A WWE Hall of Famer has reflected on an infamous WrestleMania match with Triple H.
At WrestleMania 19, Triple H defeated Booker T to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Many fans took issue with this loss due to the storyline leading into the bout.
The buildup was very racial charged with The Game saying that “people like Booker T” aren’t supposed to be champion.
Speaking on his “The Hall of Fame” podcast, Booker T admitted that he doesn’t share the sentiment of some of those fans and spoke to just how much collaboration went into the match. He said:
“Hunter and I had a lot of back and forth as far as what was gonna be done in that match.”
On who made the call for Booker to use his old finisher, “The Harlem Hangover”, the WWE Hall of Famer said:
“I did the Harlem Hangover in that match, and Hunter called for it.”
Discussing how he felt that no matter the outcome he felt he was getting the chance to showcase his skills, Booker said:
“I don’t look back negatively on that match at all really. Do I wish I had won that match? That’s the question. It’s a really tough question because I never got in the business to win matches.”
Booker T would eventually have the chance to win the World Heavyweight Championship three years later when he defeated Rey Mysterio at the Great American Bash 2006.
The six-time world champion is now the color commentator on WWE NXT weekly on Tuesdays.
