On Tuesday, AEW star and EVP Cody Rhodes released a special charity shirt for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, with the proceeds from sales going to the National Center for Transgender Equality.

The announcement received a lot of backlash, resulting in Cody’s wife, Brandi Rhodes, taking to Twitter to quell a lot of the criticisms.
One fan tweeted, in a now deleted Twitter post:
Why can’t it be just an AEW pride shirt? Why does your name have to be attached to it? In fact, shouldn’t it be something like a Nyla Rose or a Sonny Kiss t-shirt as they are part of the community? Sh*t, I ought to go in marketing.
This tweet was the first in which Brandi responded to, tweeting:
Because he’s the one person that said “I’d like to contribute and I’ll gladly put my platform up and accept $0 so someone else can profit.” At AEW anyone that wants to do a shirt for charity can. Maybe some people just don’t want to deal with stuff like this. KC didn’t this year.
When receiving a reply to this asking if this meant that only Cody had the gall to do charity work, Brandi replied, tweeting:
Lots of people do charity here. Ref Aubrey just did a great auction for gaming. Some people seem to think the opportunity isn’t available to all. It is. It’s not about gall. Maybe don’t kick people for wanting to do something for others.
