We are saddened to report that former ECW star ‘New Jack’ Jerome Young has passed away at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack. PWInsider reported the news on Friday night.
New Jack was considered one of the most controversial performers in wrestling. His time in Smokey Mountain Wrestling and ECW earned him that reputation with his intense promos and violent matches.
His run in ECW as both a tag performer and a singles performer would be considered by most to be the peak of his career. He teamed with Mustafa as The Gangstas where they became ECW World Tag Team Champions. He also gained a reputation for dangerous stunts as he made a habit out of diving off balconies during matches.
His life and career were covered during the second season of Dark Side of the Ring. The documentary covered many of his infamous moments, including the Mass Transit and Gypsy Joe incidents.
From everyone here at WrestleTalk, we extend our deepest condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Jerome Young.
