WWE has announced the releases of Billie Kay and Mickie James. You can read the official statement from the company here.
James returned to WWE in late 2016, wrestling Asuka at NXT Takeover Toronto. This was her first match with the promotion since being released in 2010. She returned to the main roster shortly afterward, appearing on SmackDown.
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce rose to prominence in NXT as The Iiconics, a team that made its way to the main roster in 2018. As a team they won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 35 before ultimately breaking up in 2020.
Neither Kay or James have been used in prominent positions lately, with Kay portraying a comedy character on SmackDown.
