Breakout AEW Star Reveals He Thought Contract Offer Was A Joke

All Elite Wrestling are known for giving up-and-coming stars their first major platform. One new talent that has wowed the wrestling world is Powerhouse Hobbs. After showcasing his dominance on AEW Dark, Hobbs officially signed with AEW in September.

Hobbs revealed on a recent episode of Busted Open with Bully Ray, that he believed his call-up message was a prank. Hobbs told host Bully Ray this about him receiving his big break:

“I got a text from QT Marshall and I thought it was an actual rib, so I didn’t answer the text for a few hours and then, I responded. I was like, ‘Let me respond and see what this is.’ They asked if I could come out today but I live [in California]. And I said, ‘No, but I’ll find a way to get there.’ So I went from Cali to Jacksonville, and made my way out there.”

Wrestling in an AEW ring is a dream for many wrestlers. you can hardly blame the young heavyweight for thinking he was being pranked!

Despite this unconventional start to their working relationship, Hobbs reveals that he and Tony Khan have a great bond.

“With Tony Khan, I’ve never had a boss that I could just talk to,” Hobbs said. “He asks me how I am doing. You can genuinely tell that he means it. It’s not just like ‘Hey, how are you doing?’ and he walks away. So, little things like that mean a lot to me. Makes me feel good. Plus, the fact that he’s put me in the positions that he has, working with Darby [Allin] on Saturday Night Dynamite. Being thrown into the battle royal. Being paired up with Cage, Taz, and Ricky. I feel he trusts me.”

Hobbs is now in a prominent position on Dynamite after aligning himself with Team Taz. A dominant member of the AEW roster, 2021 could be the year of Powerhouse Hobbs.
