Oh how we were shocked when Bret Hart appeared at AEW Double or Nothing in May to present the AEW Championship belt for the first time.
It was one of his first public appearances since the infamously interrupted Hall of Fame speech, and many assumed that this could be the start of a partnership between Hart and AEW.
However, it seems as though this is not the case, as Hart, speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show, said the appearance was just a one time thing.
“It was convenient the first time. I’m a big fan of the promotion, and I like a lot of the wrestlers that are there, and I think it’s good for the industry if there’s another wrestling company besides WWE. At the same time, it was a one-time thing, mostly because I was in the area. But I do have a lot of fondness for what they’re trying to do, and I support them. I hope they become a real big wrestling company in the next year.”
His most recent appearance for WWE was in a very brief backstage segment with Seth Rollins, in which he sort of stroked Rollins on the shoulder.
Hart is well and truly done with wrestling, but he’s the sort of name both AEW or WWE would love to have as a returning legend when he’s free for a promo.
