British Indy Star Signs For Japanese Promotion Dragon Gate

13-year British wrestling veteran Martin Kirby is heading to Japan for a two-month tour with Dragon Gate.

He will become the second Brit on the promotion’s books, alongside PAC.

Kirby will make his debut for the group on August 3 in Okayama, teaming with Ryo Saito against Keisuke Okuda and Masaaki Mochizuki.

Kirby debuted back in 2006 and has since wrestled for all of the biggest promotions in the UK, competing against the likes of Jushin Liger, Lance Storm and Will Ospreay to widespread critical acclaim.

In recent years Kirby is perhaps best known for his spell in WCPW/Defiant Wrestling, where he was one of the promotion’s top acts.

Kirby also appeared on ITV’s WOS Wrestling where he feuded with long-time rival Joe Hendry.

Upon the confirmation of the news of his Dragon Gate debut, Kirby tweeted that he was “elated” to be working for Dragon Gate and expressed how much it means to him to be part of the promotion:

Notable names from around the wrestling circuit including Will Ospreay, David Starr, Sha Samuels, Martina, Flash Morgan Webster, Dave Mastiff and Ligero were quick to congratulate Kirby and wish him well.

WrestleTalk would like to do the same. Congratulations Kirby, enjoy your time in Japan!
