Britt Baker Names WWE Story That Inspired Her AEW

Former AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker has named the WWE storyline that inspired her to become a wrestler.

Baker defeated Hikaru Shida to win the AEW Women’s World Championship in May 2021, and went on to hold the title for the better part of 10 months, dropping the title to Thunder Rosa back at St Patrick’s Day Slam earlier this year.

Speaking as a guest on the Swerve City Podcast, Baker said that she was primarily inspired by Daniel Bryan around the time of WrestleMania 30 in 2014:

“That was my favorite underdog success story.”I was so inspired by that. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I loved his story.”

Baker said that the moment Bryan tapped out Batista to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship hooked “a lot of my non-wrestling friends into wrestling.” Her friends initially viewed professional wrestling through the lens of reality show Total Divas. After seeing Bryan’s story, “they’d actually watch the wrestling show and be like, ‘Oh, wow, wait, this wrestling is pretty cool. This is amazing,'” Baker said.

Baker would enrol in the International Wrestling Cartel training academy in South Hills, Pennsylvania just two months after WrestleMania 30, in June 2014.

Bryan now wrestles in AEW alongside Baker, under his real name Bryan Danielson.
