As we left 2019 and moved into 2020, many fans were speculating about who WWE would have Brock Lesnar defend his WWE Championship against at the Royal Rumble. Names such as Drew McIntyre, Ricochet and Randy Orton were thrown about.
However, Paul Heyman announced on the 01/06 episode of Raw that Brock Lesnar would not only be part of the men’s Royal Rumble match, but would be the first person to enter the bout.
While many people initially thought Brock Lesnar would win the match, reliable Twitter source WrestleVotes confirmed that Brock was not set to walk out of Houston, Texas with the win, and would likely be eliminated by his WrestleMania opponent.
Source says WWE is doing this Lesnar in the Rumble angle as a way to set up Brock’s Mania matchup. Which could signal its against someone from SD or NXT as Heyman mentioned a few times last night. Opens up a world of possibilities.

This has seemingly been confirmed by Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter who claimed that Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania opponent will likely eliminate him from the match, setting up a big-time feud
“Brock Lesnar, the WWE champion, will be entering the Rumble at No. 1 and whoever he is to face at Mania, that would probably be a guy that either eliminates him or shoots an angle with him.”
This means that Lesnar’s opponent for the “grandest stage of them all” will likely be revealed at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Sunday.
With regards to the likely winner of the Royal Rumble match, Dave Meltzer noted that SmackDown star Roman Reigns is likely to win his second rumble match before going on to face The Fiend at WrestleMania.
Also, WrestleTalk.com will have live coverage of Raw, NXT, AEW: Dynamite, Friday Night SmackDown, Worlds Collide and the Royal Rumble this week, so make sure you check out all of those.
