Bronson Rechsteiner was touted as one of the hottest prospects for the upcoming ‘rebranded’ NXT back in September. WWE had given him the name Rex Steiner ahead of his impending debut on the new ‘NXT 2.0’.
In the first segment of the new rainbow edition of the developmental show, Rechsteiner cut off an LA Knight interview, and introduced himself not as Rex Steiner, but as ‘Bron Breakker’, a name that was immediately criticised by fans online, for both not referencing his family heritage, and just for sounding a bit silly.
Breakker recently spoke to Graham Matthews of Daily DDT, where he revealed that the person responsible for the Bron Breakker name was… Bron Breakker himself.
He admitted:
“We were just sitting around one day and I’m like, ‘Well, when I used to block people in football, I used to try to break them in half. That was literally what I tried to do: snap them in half and break them. What if I’m the breaker? I break people, Breakker, and then it came to me. Bron is part of my first name and that’s what we went with,”
Breakker’s family heritage has been referenced on NXT 2.0 television, with Vic Joseph on commentary referring to him as a ‘Dog Faced Gremlin’, Tommaso Ciampa referencing the infamous ‘Steiner Math’ promo and most recently Johnny Gargano calling him ‘Big Bad Booty Nephew’.
Breakker said that he is fine with his family ties being referenced, but he hopes to carve out a legacy for himself. He added:
“What my dad and uncle did before me with some of their promos and stuff that they’ve done, they’ve laid all this groundwork. There’s all this stuff out there for me to use if I want to. Obviously, I’m not going to bank my entire… that’s not what I’m going for. I want to make a name for myself and stand on my own, but there’s certain things out there we can use.”
Breakker is set to team with Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo and Grayson Waller as ‘Team 2.0’ against Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne and LA Knight of ‘Team Black and Gold’ inside War Games at tonight’s (December 5) NXT War Games show.
