WWE Name Reveals When Plans For Cody Rhodes Vs Roman Reigns Started WWE

A WWE name has revealed when plans for Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns started.

At WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes will challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to headline Night 2 of this weekend’s two-night event.

Rhodes earned this opportunity by returning from injury to win the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match this past January. However, it seems plans for this main event showdown started much before this year.

Appearing on The Press Box, Bruce Pritchard was asked when the idea for Reigns vs. Rhodes came to fruition. He answered:

“I would say that getting to this place, where we are, started probably in August. We were really shooting for that and trying to make things work so that by the time we got to WrestleMania, we were looking at it in August.”

Noting that the week-to-week could change depending on reactions, emotions, injuries and any other outside factors, Pritchard said:

“Even still today, we like to look at what is the end goal? Where do we want to be at the end of this story? What’s the ending? And then work backward.”

“When you look at the Bloodline story and integrating Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens and now Cody, it’s very deep storytelling.”

“There were so many hints and things along the way that when you look back at it, you go, ‘Wow, I remember that. That meant this.’ You start putting the pieces together.”

Pritchard is an executive and producers for WWE Raw and SmackDown.
