Bryan Danielson Discusses His Final Matches With WWE WWE

Bryan Danielson has discussed his final matches with WWE.

In September 2021, Bryan Danielson signed with All Elite Wrestling and debuted at AEW All Out 2021. This followed just several months earlier where the former WWE Champion headlined WrestleMania 37 against Roman Reigns and Edge.

Bryan’s final bout with the company was against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship on the April 30, 2021 edition of SmackDown inside the ThunderDome.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Danielson reflected on those final matches with WWE. He said:

“That was a match people enjoyed. It didn’t mean anything to me. I felt nothing. You have to remember—it was our first time back in front of a live crowd [since the start of the pandemic], and we were in front of thousands of people.”

“I felt nothing during that match. I was trying my best, but it felt like I was going through the motions. Then I wrestled Roman in the ThunderDome in front of all these screens, and I loved that match.”

“It was the perfect way for me to end my WWE career. Putting together the [WrestleMania] match, I could feel a little bit of my apathy, but that’s happened before and then I walk out there and I feel, ‘This is what I live for.’ That was very weird psychologically.”

Danielson continued on to explain the difference between those final bouts in WWE in comparison to his matches in AEW now, saying:

“Something was wrong. It was very glaring to me. There was one match, I was super sick when I wrestled Matt Menard on Dynamite last year.”

“It was a pretty short match, though it did go through a commercial break, and I just wanted to get through it. Turns out, I went out there and had a blast.”

“I went to the back, and for 30 more minutes, I felt great. Then I started feeling horrible again. The surprise for me is always when a match isn’t fun. I’ll be very surprised if I wrestle MJF for an hour and I don’t have fun.”

Bryan Danielson is set to challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship in a 60 minute Iron Man match at this Sunday’s AEW Revolution event.

As previously reported, Danielson has discussed the idea of trying to convince Tony Khan to have him and MJF open the show instead of go on last.
