Top NXT Star Names Two WWE Legends He Wants To Face

An NXT star whose name seems to be on everyone’s lips has revealed the two WWE names that he would like to go toe-to-toe with in the ring.

During a recent interview with Cameron Hawkins of The Ringer, Carmelo Hayes named two WWE veterans that are on his bucket list of dream competitors.

Hayes said:

“I really want to work with Edge. I’d love to work with Edge. I’d love to work with Cena. I’m going to say all the guys that are probably more on their way out than the guys that are more (realistic), but I’d love to work with Edge. I’d love to work with Cena, man, there’s just so many.”

Hayes recalled getting into wrestling during the Ruthless Aggression era. This of course marked Cena’s debut as he accepted an open invitation from Kurt Angle.

Edge was also in full R-Rated Superstar mode and made a huge impression on Carmelo Hayes.

He explained:

“Edge, he’s another one that reached out to me, who I never would have thought, you know what I mean? That’s one of my favorite wrestlers growing up as a kid.”

Another veteran of the squared circle and current Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, Shawn Michaels,  has been mentoring Hayes.

Hayes noted their similarities and said Michaels even pulls him up on it, determined for Melo to learn from HBK’s mistakes.

He continued:

“You’d be surprised how often (Shawn) pulls me back. And there’s times where I have to be like, ‘Hey, don’t forget who you were.’ But he reminds me, like, ‘Hey, don’t do as I did. Do as I say.’ And he reminds me (that it) was a different point in his life. And if he could go back, I’m sure he probably would change a lot of those things.”

It must be paying off Hall of Famer Booker T recently named Carmelo Hayes as one of his ‘fave fives,’ which you can read more about right here. 

Carmelo Hayes will face Wes Lee, Oro Mensah, Von Wagner and Nathan Frazier in a ladder match as they compete for the North American Championship at NXT Halloween Havoc on Saturday, October 22.
