Former ROH Owner Cary Silkin has shared his honest thoughts on Tony Khan’s presentation of the promotion.
Since Tony Khan’s acquisition of ROH, the promotion has held two specials, Supercard of Honor in April, and Death Before Dishonor in July.
While ROH doesn’t currently have a weekly TV deal, some title storylines are still playing out on AEW TV. The ROH World Championship notably changed hands at At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, with Chris Jericho defeating Claudio Castagnoli to win the gold.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cary Silkin, who operated ROH from 2004 until 2011, noted that he’s intrigued by the decision to put the promotion’s top title on Jericho.
When asked if he feels that Tony Khan’s product has given a good enough nod to ROH’s early days, Silkin said:
No, not yet. To be honest, maybe Tony Khan will hear this and not be happy with what I said but, there was a lot of good.
“He’s got so many people there that he’s gonna use contracted AEW guys as opposed to bringing in Dalton Castle regularly or bringing in a Matt Taven and whoever else and hopefully some of these guys that were fringed but worthy wrestling talent like Taven, like Mike Bennett, other guys have signed with IMPACT already as Tommy (Dreamer) knows.
“PCO was sort of associated with Ring of Honor. Hey, maybe Bully Ray will come back… But yeah, I would like to see the brand represented. Absolutely, Chris Jericho brings more attention to the ROH letters, but he’s got Claudio (Castagnoli) there, he’s got Bryan Danielson there, Jay Lethal who I feel has not been used to his best ability at all, far from it.
“But I’m not the guy with the pencil. But there’s enough guys with the true Ring of Honor lineage. Dalton was there… I was happy to see that. So, hopefully if this comes together, there will be a little more of the old school Ring of Honor vibe.
“It was a great experience. Jericho will get his (for putting his hands on me) and it’s gonna be interesting to see what they do with him, but as Tommy pointed out, the Ring of Honor Title will get a lot more attention and hopefully lead to this pie in the sky TV deal that Tony Khan’s been working on and I think he is.”
Tony Khan recently revealed that he’s having frequent talks with a notable network about a potential ROH TV deal, which you can read more about right here.
