Cathy Kelley Would ‘Love’ To Be An On-Screen Manager In WWE, Isn’t Planning In-Ring Debut Despite Training At Performance Center

Jamie has been covering the world of wrestling for four years and currently holds the position of Assistant Editor of WrestleTalk.com. During his time working for WrestleTalk.com he has written and published over 4,000 news and feature articles covering events and happenings from WWE, AEW, TNA and a variety of international and independent wrestling promotions.

Cathy Kelley has expressed her desire to become an on-screen manager in WWE, whilst also pouring cold water on the idea of potentially competing inside the squared-circle.

Across her two spells in WWE, Cathy Kelley has most often been deployed as a correspondent, with her first spell seeing her work primarily in WWE NXT, while her current run has seen her work as a backstage interviewer on Raw and SmackDown at different points.

While there have been no clues on WWE TV of a potential role change for the 37-year-old, reports last year stated that Kelley was doing in-ring training and promo classes at the Performance Center, with it noted that a manager-esque role was something that could be in Kelley’s future.

In response to the rumors, Kelley said that she could soon be asking herself the “hard-hitting questions,” leading to fan excitement regarding the possibility of seeing her compete.

Now almost exactly a year on from those comments, Kelley has seemingly shut the door on becoming an in-ring performer, stating during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that she doesn’t think she wants to have a match in WWE, despite undergoing training at the PC.

While she’s not keen on an in-ring debut, she absolutely does want to transition to become a manager at some point, and has done for quite some time.

Kelley said:

“I don’t think I would want to have a match. I’ve expressed in the past that I do want to get more involved in some capacity. I would love to be a manager. I don’t know who for. That’s been something that I’ve said for probably a decade now.

“I actually valeted Ryan Katz in his last match on the Indies many, many years ago. But that progression is something that I would want.”

Discussing her reasoning for undergoing in-ring training at the WWE PC, Kelley said:

“I would say that I’m someone that really values growth, and I love learning everything that I can about this business. So any opportunity I can do that, I’m going to take it.

“Another example is I sit next to Paul Heyman every single week in Gorilla.”

Many Potential Candidates For Cathy Kelley To Manage In WWE

Kelley’s ambitions to transition into a managerial role on WWE TV will be music to many’s ears given how dearth of traditional managers WWE has been in recent years.

Paul Heyman and Lil Yachty stand as the only two prominent manager figures in WWE at present, and both do a wonderful job in further elevate the talent they’re associated with.

This could certainly also be the case with Cathy Kelley, who could help some of WWE’s less confident talkers in the men’s and women’s divisions find greater prominence.

Rather than Raw or SmackDown, WWE could test the waters by pairing Kelley with a young NXT talent such as Dorian Van Dux, Elio LeFleur or Romeo Moreno, all of whom have crossed over stateside from Europe.
