Jamie has been covering the world of wrestling for four years and currently holds the position of Assistant Editor of WrestleTalk.com. During his time working for WrestleTalk.com he has written and published over 4,000 news and feature articles covering events and happenings from WWE, AEW, TNA and a variety of international and independent wrestling promotions.

Cathy Kelley has opened up about the lessons she’s learned from Paul Heyman, recalling an instance where the Hall of Famer told her to change her look for WWE TV.

As well as being a fixture of WWE programming as “The Oracle” of The Vision and advocate of Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman is also a key figure behind the scenes in the company and someone talent can rely upon for advice given his four decades of experience in the wrestling industry.

One such name who has received her fair share of lessons from the WWE Hall of Famer is Friday Night SmackDown backstage correspondent Cathy Kelley, who, during her appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet was asked to name the biggest thing she’s learned from Heyman.

While admitting it isn’t the best pearl of wisdom she’s received from Heyman, Kelley recalled “The Wiseman” telling her to change her look at a time when she was wearing glasses and had cut her bangs.

Recalling Heyman’s reasoning, Kelley said:

“There are so many lessons I don’t even know where to start.

“This isn’t the best thing that I’ve learned from him, but when I was wearing glasses and I had cut my bangs, he’s like, ‘You have to get rid of that, because we can’t see your eyes, and your eyes are where you tell your emotion.’

“So there’s just a lot of little things that I think he helps so many people backstage, but I picked up from him.”

While Kelley has learned a lot from Heyman, she’s also potentially looking to follow in his footsteps as well, as she revealed during the same interview that she has ambitions to perform as a manager on WWE programming.

Paul Heyman was recently written off WWE TV after taking an inadvertent Spear from Bron Breakker during Breakker’s one-on-one match with Seth Rollins on the June 1 episode of Raw.

Cathy Kelley Addresses Long-Term Wrestling Future

2026 marks 10 years since Cathy Kelley debuted in WWE as a member of the NXT broadcast team, and while she had two and a half years away from the company between early 2020 and late 2022, she is a fixture of the company’s weekly broadcasts, PLEs and socials.

While she has eyes on potentially stepping into new roles in WWE in the future as previously mentioned, the bigger question is how long does the 37-year-old plan to remain doing what she’s doing in wrestling?

Addressing her future, Kelley said:

“I think as long as I’m treated well and I’m having fun, I would love to be involved.

I don’t know in what capacity. I would love to have a family as well. So I don’t know what that looks like, but, Mean Gene was doing it all the way up until he passed. Yeah, what a legend. I remember him coming to the studio in Stamford and taping shows.”
