Celebrity Name Turned Down WWE Writer Job Offer WWE

A celebrity name, who has had a recent association with WWE, has recalled previously being offered a job as a writer during his early years performing stand-up comedy.

Known best for his Kill Tony podcast and selection of Netflix comedy specials, Tony Hinchcliffe is someone fans have also seen on WWE TV on occasion in 2025 – with the comedian hosting the untelevised ‘Roast of WrestleMania’ show after this year’s two-night event in Las Vegas, as well as appearing as a guest commentator on the April 7 episode of Raw.

Ahead of John Cena’s final WWE match on December 13, Hinchcliffe and Cena appeared as guests on the latest Joe Rogan Experience podcast, during which Hinchcliffe reflected on previously turning down a job offer to become a writer for WWE during his early years performing stand-up in New York City.

He recalled:

“Yeah it was only a couple years into me doing standup like seven nights a week at the comedy store all the time. Someone’s like ‘Hey, I have a friend in WWE if you want to have a meeting with them and just talk.’

“I went in with straight up ideas, this that, The Undertaker’s brother comes back again, this, that, the next, everything back and forth. I can’t even remember any of them it’s been so long. But I went in with a whole thing, this guy’s like ‘Where the hell did you? This is crazy, you just did this?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I found out a couple days ago we were going to talk.’

“They (WWE) offered it, but I would have had to move to Connecticut and take a train to New York every night to go do standup, and that would have just been exhausting.”

Further reiterating that relocating to Connecticut that was the reason he turned down the role, Hinchcliffe said:

“…If it was anywhere else other than Connecticut, it kind of would have made sense, if it was in New York City it would have been a no brainer. If it was in LA, definitely.”

Hinchcliffe was set to host another late night special in New Jersey during WWE SummerSlam 2025 weekend in August, however the show was canceled, with ticket sales reportedly “light”.
