Chad Gable has opened up about Ludwig Kaiser taking over his El Grande Americano WWE character, and how his perspective on it changed with time.
In early 2025, Chad Gable’s lack of success against luchador opponents led to him adopting the masked El Grande Americano character.
While it began as a parody of Mexican culture and lucha libre, El Grande Americano evolved to become the most beloved member of the WWE AAA roster, albeit after Chad Gable was replaced under the mask by Ludwig Kaiser in July 2025.
With Kaiser speaking fluent Spanish, unlike Gable, and embracing the Mexican fans rather than making fun of them, Kaiser became the true El Grande Americano in the eyes of many, and he eventually established that he would continue as the character for the foreseeable future when he defeated Gable – aka ‘The Original’ El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask Match at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30.
With Gable passing the torch to Kaiser to continue on as the only El Grande Americano in AAA, he has now shared his honest thoughts on Kaiser’s work in the role whilst appearing on What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes.
While he admitted he originally “took umbrage” with Kaiser taking his creation and running with it, Gable spoke of his admiration of Kaiser’s attitude in not getting a “boo boo face” about the characters, and instead turning it into gold.
Gable said:
“Just what a magical thing he’s done. I took umbrage with him taking this thing that I had created, I had built. But far be it from me to discredit anybody for taking it to a level that he did.
“Because that is not something that is easily done in this place. You could be saddled with something like that and really put on a boo boo face and be like ‘I hate this,’ and I’ve seen it a million times. He did the exact opposite and turned it into absolute gold.”
