Chad Gable Set To Face Rusev In First WWE Match Following Unmasking As Original El Grande Americano, Addresses Recent Fan Support

Chad Gable is set to face off against Rusev on WWE Raw in his first match since being unmasked as Original El Grande Americano.

At AAA Noche de los Grandes night one, Original El Grande Americano was defeated by El Grande Americano in the mask vs. mask match, with the Original losing his mask, being revealed as Chad Gable.

Gable has not competed under his official ring name for a year, with him recently returning to both Raw and SmackDown in the days since the mask vs. mask defeat, where he has been apologising for his actions after putting on the mask.

Gable’s apology to luchadores has mostly been accepted over the past few weeks, including by Rey Mysterio, who was saved by Gable on this week’s episode of WWE Raw after Rusev ripped off his mask following Rey’s match with Penta on the show.

Chad Gable To Face Rusev In First Match Since Unmasking

It has now been announced that Chad Gable will compete in his first match since being unmasked on next week’s WWE Raw show, set to face off against Rusev.

Taking to social media ahead of the show, Gable commented ahead of the match, addressing the fan support he has received over the past few weeks, and how it is ‘now or never’ for him.

He said:

The acceptance I’ve been given by EVERYONE upon dropping the mask and returning to #WWERaw has been overwhelming and will be forever treasured by me.

But if I don’t perform and live up to my own expectations, it’ll all be for nothing.

This Monday, Rusev is the first stop on a very important path I’ve defined for myself.

Chad Gable’s WWE Future Following Unmasking

Chad Gable has long been considered one of WWE’s most underrated stars over the past few years, with him yet to capture his first singles championship during his time in the company.

Gable has had a number of chances to capture the Intercontinental Championship in his career, first during his rivalry with Gunther back in 2023, with Gable even picking up a victory over the Ring General via countout.

Gable also came close to defeating Sami Zayn for the title following WrestleMania 40, with them facing off at WWE Clash At The Castle in Glasgow.

With SummerSlam set to take place in Gable’s hometown of Minneapolis this August, Gable finally capturing the title by defeating Penta, the man who first started his shift to El Grande Americano, would be a great full circle moment.
