Major Championship Match Official For AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door AEW

Following Dominion 2024, a major championship match has been made official for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.

At NJPW Dominion 2024, Jon Moxley defeated EVIL to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in a Lumberjack Deathmatch.

After his successful title defence, Moxley got on the microphone and made a challenge to anyone in the locker room to step up to be his next challenger.

Former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito came out to accept the challenge and vowed to bring the gold back to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

On June 10, All Elite Wrestling made the championship match official with an announcement on social media. The post reads:

IWGP World Heavyweight Title Jon Moxley vs. Tetsuya Naito

After successfully defeating @151012EVIL at #NJDominion, IWGP World Heavyweight Champ @JonMoxley takes on the former champion, @s_d_naito!

Moxley defeated Naito to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at NJPW Windy City Riot in April. He has since defended the title against Powerhouse Hobbs, Ren Narita, Shota Umino and EVIL.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will be headlined by Swerve Strickland defending the AEW World Title against AEW International Champion Will Ospreay. For the full lineup for the show, click here.
