Omega won the AAA Mega Championship from Rey Fenix in October. Since then, he has defended the title against Jack Evans on AEW Dark and against Dragon Lee at AAA TripleMania Regia.
Omega has not appeared as champion on Dynamite prior to this week. He is also half of the current AEW World Tag Team Champions with Hangman Page, a storyline that has been given far more time than his reign as AAA Mega Champion.
Guevara started 2020 with a pair of wins but has struggled to find success since. Most notably, he was defeated by Darby Allin at Revolution but he could gain a large amount of momentum if he is able to beat Kenny Omega on Dynamite.
A number of segments and matches have been announced for the show. In addition to this match, Cody vs. Jimmy Havoc, Best Friends vs. Lucha Bros. in a Parking Lot Fight, and a Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho segment have all been announced.
