Change To Vince McMahon Planned Role In WrestleMania 38 Pat McAfee Vs. Austin Theory Match

There has reportedly been a change to Vince McMahon’s planned involvement in the Pat McAfee vs Austin Theory WrestleMania 38 match.

On WrestleMania 38 Sunday (April 3), SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee will return to the ring to face off against Theory in singles action. While it was originally reported that McMahon was set to face McAfee, it was later noted that the WWE Chairman will be heavily involved with the angle.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that McMahon’s role for the match has changed once again. Originally expecting McMahon to be introduced into the storyline on last week’s (March 18) episode of SmackDown, Meltzer wrote:

“On the 3/11 Smackdown show, they did a storyline where Pat McAfee attacked Austin Theory, leaving his broadcast position. The idea was for that to lead to the introduction of Vince McMahon in some form to the match.

“We were told McMahon is going to do whatever he wants to do, noting that this had been finalized as something different, changed, and how much he will or won’t do is something perhaps only he knows at this point.”

Seth Rollins’ role at WrestleMania is also seemingly uncertain, with the former WWE Champion planned to face Cody Rhodes at the April 2-3 event, if the former AEW EVP chooses to sign with WWE. You can check out the latest backstage update on Rhodes’ WWE status at this link.
