Chaos Backstage For WWE SmackDown Last Night

There was reportedly major alterations to the script and chaos backstage at Friday Night SmackDown last night, the final show before this weekend’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event.

Dave Meltzer noted on the Wrestling Observer Radio that no matches had been announced for the show because WWE were still unsure about what they wanted to be part of the go-home show, and it appears as if there is a reason for this.

The reason that there were so many rewrites for the show is that the creative team on SmackDown devoted so much time to the booking and writing of the Law and Otis segments which ran through the show last night.

Meltzer even notes that, as was the case last week, Triple H was drafted in to help with the running of the show, which has actually been received pretty well by fans and critics online ahead of Hell in a Cell.

Due to the World Series, last night’s show was moved off of FOX onto the smaller FS1 channel, and the show is expected to see a major drop in the overnight ratings, as was the case with the show last year.

Meltzer has noted that there was some confusion backstage as to why so much time was devoted to last night’s FS1 show, considering it will almost certainly fail to draw 1,000,000 viewers. For context, last year’s FS1 show drew 888,000.
