WWE star Charlotte Flair has revealed a scrapped pitched WWE ring name she made prior to her debut in NXT.
Charlotte made her debut for the NXT brand back in 2013, where she debuted under simply the name ‘Charlotte’ on the developmental brand.
Upon her arrival to the main roster, the Flair surname was eventually added to Charlotte’s persona, with her playing off her wrestling royalty by adopting her father’s surname.
However, Charlotte was not the original pitched name for the Queen, with her revealing that she thinks the name Charlotte was a joke based on Ric Flair’s hometown being Charlotte, North Carolina.
Speaking on the Ringer Wrestling Show, she revealed that her original pitch for a ring name was ‘Elizabeth Reid’, a combination of Miss Elizabeth and her brother Reid.
She said:
“I think they named me Charlotte as like a joke. I did love Charlotte from ‘Sex and the City,’ but I pitched, because I love Miss Elizabeth, I pitched Elizabeth. Elizabeth Reid was one because of my brother. He was still alive then, but pretty much kind of…Elizabeth was part of my name.
“Charlotte, I think they went with because ‘Ric is billed from Charlotte. This is easy.’”
Charlotte came up short in her WWE Women’s Championship match against Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania 41.
