Top WWE Star Disagrees With Charlotte Flair Comments About WrestleMania Main Event WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has weighed in on the debate surrounding the main event spot on night one of WrestleMania 39.

Whilst it was always seemingly a toss up between the Usos vs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Undisputed Tag Team Championship match and the Smackdown Women’s Championship bout between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley, the honor would ultimately go to the former bout.

This was largely seen as the right call by fans due to the quality of the story between The Bloodline and Zayn and Owens, however it was not seen the same way by Flair who claimed on the Out of Character with Ryan Satin ahead of WrestleMania that her encounter with Ripley should’ve gone on last.

Flair stated that due to the men’s Royal Rumble winner earning a main event spot, the same right should go to the women’s Rumble winner also.

However, this statement was one that Stratus would disagree with, addressing the comments on Out of Character with Ryan Satin.

Sharing her take on the WrestleMania main event, Stratus said:

“See that’s like where we start to (differ). Okay, so we have this thing like, there has to be a woman’s match.

“But I always look at it like, I don’t want you to look at it as a woman’s match. I want you to look at it as like this storyline should culminate to this match, to this WrestleMania moment.

“I feel like a lot of it is all about our stories and our characters and taking our fans on a journey to get them to a certain point.

“So I don’t think it depends on like, ‘Let’s make sure we get the token woman’s match.’ I don’t want to be the token women’s match.

“I want it to be viewed as like; I want my match regardless of our gender to be ‘The match’ because of the storyline, because of the characters, because of the interest and because of what the fans want.”

As for the eventual main event, Stratus would reveal she had no problem with the choice due to the strength of the narrative that preceded it, explaining:

“Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn is the best example because you know their friendship, you know what they do.

“And, some people don’t know, but now…We know they’ve had a 20 year history but it hasn’t been on TV, not on WWE TV necessarily, but we know that they’re this because of that history.

“That’s true, and it’s real. It’s been there for two decades.”

While Flair is currently still absent from TV, Stratus has been involved in her first heel a program in almost two decades with Becky Lynch, who recently herself returned on this past Monday Night Raw (May 14).
