Charlotte Flair has shared her honest thoughts on her WWE character, stating that she understands why fans wanted to boo her for most of her career.

Flair is one of the most decorated women’s wrestlers in WWE history, having 14 reigns with singles championships on the main roster.

Before her most recent run, many fans would boo Charlotte Flair regardless of whether she was wrestling as a heel or babyface.

Speaking on Casuals with Katie Nolan, Flair noted that she understands why her character would receive the reactions she did, saying:

“I mean, it felt good for most of my career. Also I think, because I was looking at it like, I’m Ric Flair’s kid. I get it, there’s nothing to like.

“I’m really gifted athletically because I’ve learned so much over the years, but you never want the same… Alabama wins again, Yankees win again, the Patriots win again. I get that, but then that was my job to roll with it.

“It’s a character, the character wasn’t built to lose. Yes, the storyline I’ve been doing and losing last year, I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I think it was just easier to dislike that character up until now than it was to like that character.”

When asked if she hates Charlotte Flair sometimes, the real-life Ashley Fliehr said:

“Do I hate her sometimes? No, because I really did build this woman that I wanted to be in my personal life. So it’s like, I wish I was more like my character sometimes, take no s**t.

“I just wish I was like, she’s so put together and the investment, I wish I had invested in myself as much as I did the character. But now it’s both.

“I’ve had the most fun I’ve ever had this past year, showing layers of what made Charlotte so perfect was the imperfections and the losses versus all the wins. Tying that in has been so much fun.”

Charlotte Flair will team with Alexa Bliss at WrestleMania 42, facing off against the Bella Twins, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, and current champions Nia Jax & Lash Legend in a tag-team four-way for the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

While Flair and Bliss have been a fun tag-team together, a win for Flair on April 19 in a match featuring several up-and-coming names would risk these polarising reactions returning.
