AEW
Chris Jericho has officially undergone a name change following his return to AEW Dynamite last week in Winnipeg.
After months of speculation in regards to his future, with him having reported interest from WWE for a potential return and retirement run, Chris Jericho’s status was confirmed on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Jericho made his return to AEW after almost a year off television on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite in his hometown of Winnipeg, where he announced that he was ‘home’.
It was reported after his return that Jericho has signed a new contract to remain with AEW, but a curious detail was picked up by AEW fans following his return.
Chris Jericho Shortens His Name In AEW
When Jericho made his return, the commentators only referred to him under the name ‘Jericho’, with ‘Chris’ not being mentioned by commentators, nor was it displayed on his new entrance graphics or merchandise.
This led to some speculation that Jericho had shortened his name, and would only be going by ‘Jericho’ in his latest run.
That was seemingly confirmed on tonight’s episode of Dynamite, when Jericho made his way out to the ring to address his return.
Jericho would use the same graphics only displaying the Jericho name he used last week, but this time his nameplate also simply said ‘Jericho’, seemingly confirming that he would be going under just that name in his latest run.
Jericho’s AEW Return & Plans
On tonight’s AEW Dynamite, Jericho’s return was interrupted by Ricochet and the Demand, where Ricochet would antagonise Jericho, before Jericho told him that he had the choice to pick his opponent for Dynasty, and chose Ricochet.
With Jericho back in the fold in AEW, there has been an influx of new talent that has signed over the past year that he can work with for the first time, including names like Mike Bailey, Kevin Knight and David Finlay.
Jericho also has a lot of history with most people on the AEW roster, including Kenny Omega, MJF and Will Ospreay, that he has the chance to run it back with one more time.
While Jericho seems busy with Ricochet in the immediate future, there are a number of options waiting for him on the other side of Dynasty.
