Chris Jericho Challenges Okada For The IWGP Championship

Chris Jericho Challenges Okada For The IWGP Championship

Chris Jericho has challenged Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for Dominion on June 9th.

Jericho appeared at the end of Wrestling Dontaku Day Two to issue the challenge. This marked his first appearance in New Japan Pro Wrestling since his loss to Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 13 on January 4th. He lost the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at the event and now he is looking to win the most prized title in New Japan.

Okada had just defended the title against SANADA when Jericho made the challenge. During Okada’s post-match address, the lights went dark and Jericho’s video played on the big screen. Jericho made the challenge and screamed that he was going to win.

Jericho had made it clear that he was still interested in competing for New Japan when he signed with AEW earlier this year. He stated that he still had a list of guys that he wanted to work with in New Japan. Clearly, Kazuchika Okada was near the top of that list.

This appearance comes less that 24 hours after Jericho made a surprise appearance at an indie show. He and Kenny Omega made an appearance at Southern Honor Wrestling to hype their match at AEW Double or Nothing.
