Chris Jericho Suggests WWE Is ‘Prostituting’ Hell In A Cell Gimmick

Ahead of the first ever AEW Blood & Guts match, Chris Jericho has compared the match build to how WWE books Hell in a Cell.

On Wednesday, Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle go to war with The Pinnacle. Jericho has stated that this rivalry was so explosive, it needed the Blood & Guts stipulation.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Jericho noted that he thinks that matches have to fit their stories, not the other way around. Criticising WWE for how they build towards modern Hell in a Cell matches, Jericho stated that the Blood & Guts gimmick perfectly suited his current feud.

Here is the full quote:

“I’m a big proponent that the match has to fit the story, not a story just to have a match. For example, Hell in a Cell. ‘Oh we’ve got Hell in a Cell pay per view coming up next month. Let’s put together a three week story and put them in the cell. Then we’ll have a tag team in the cell, we’ll have a women cell, we’ll have a midget cell.’ It’s like, you’re just prostituting this gimmick.

“For Blood and Guts the story needs to be there first. And for the first time since last March we have this story between these two factions that, right out of the gate, there’s a lot of intensity and a lot of interest. So let’s put it in the Blood and Guts.”

The feud was kicked into full gear in March, when MJF turned on Jericho and The Inner Circle. Since MJF, Wardlow, Shawn Spears and FTR first former The Pinnacle, both factions have been launching attacks, desperate for revenge.

On the episode of AEW Dynamite after Blood & Guts, Jon Moxley defends his IWGP US Championship against Yuji Nagata. Moxley and Nagata will both be in action on Friday’s episode of NJPW Strong.
