Top AEW Star Planning To Make A Movie AEW

Chris Jericho has revealed his plans to take one of his (very many) gimmicks and expand it into ventures outside of the ring.

Jericho’s ‘The Painmaker’ gimmick was first introduced in NJPW during his rivalry with The Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada.

Since then, The Painmaker has appeared on AEW on several occasions, including at AEW Dynamite (Fyter Fest, Week 2) on July 20 during the ‘Barb Wire Everwhere’ match that saw Jericho face Eddie Kingston.

Jericho revealed his plans during a recent episode of Howie Mandel Does Stuff.

The Ring of Honor champion said:

“The idea is to make it into a movie at some point. That’s my overall goal. We’re just writing and illustrating the graphic novel now.

“So the idea is The Painmaker is an intergalactic former serial killer. He’s changed his life, and he’s not a serial killer anymore, but now he travels the galaxy hunting down other serial killers in different galaxies, different planets.”

Jericho compared The Painmaker to the Showtime crime drama series, Dexter, but noted that the story had many angles for development.

He continued:

“What if The Painmaker falls in love and can’t help himself, and he has to kill the one he loves?

“Who knows? The possibilities are endless.”

A movie featuring The Painmaker would not be Chris Jericho’s first project away from pro wrestling.

The self-styled sports entertainer is known as the frontman of the metal band, Fozzy, and also runs his own cruise line.

Jericho also recently negotiated a three-year contract extension with AEW that includes additional responsibilities behind the scenes in production and mentoring.

Chris Jericho will be defending the Ring of Honor World Championship at Full Gear in a Fatal Four-Way match against Blackpool Combat Club members Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli and Jericho Appreciation Society member, Sammy Guevara.
