AEW star Claudio Castagnoli has explained why WWE split him from Paul Heyman in 2014.
Claudio Castagnoli signed with WWE in 2011 and worked with the promotion for 11 years under the name of Cesaro.
At WrestleMania 30, Cesaro won the first-ever Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. On the Raw After Mania, WWE paired Cesaro with Paul Heyman after Heyman managed Brock Lesnar to end the Undertaker’s WrestleMania undefeated streak.
On the latest edition of The Kurt Angle Show, Castagnoli discussed the pairing and why they were eventually split up.
He said:
“I think Paul said once that they just needed somebody to go out and talk about Brock Lesnar breaking the streak and they needed a reason for Paul to go out there. I was there for him for him to go out there and talk about me and talk about Brock. I think right before Brock got back, we kind of got, got split up again.”
Claudio Castagnoli signed with All Elite Wrestling in June and debuted at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view where he defeated NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr. He also joined the Blackpool Combat Club with William Regal, Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta and Jon Moxley.
Castagnoli went on to defeat Jonathan Gresham to win the ROH World Championship at the Death Before Dishonor event in July.
