Claudio Castagnoli Opens Up About ROH World Title Win & ‘Brass Ring Month’ AEW

Claudio Castagnoli has opened up about his ROH World Championship victory, discussing his relationship with the term ‘brass ring’.

In an interview in 2014, Vince McMahon argued that Castagnoli (then Cesaro) needed to ‘grab the brass ring’ and connect with fans before he’d receive a push.

At Death Before Dishonor, Castagnoli defeated Jonathan Gresham to win the ROH World Title. In the post-show media scrum, Castagnoli noted that the title win could be viewed as the culmination of a ‘brass ring month’, following his AEW debut at Forbidden Door and performance in the recent Blood & Guts bout.

Castagnoli said:

“What is a brass ring moment? If somebody can find that out and explain it to me, that would be amazing. It’s definitely an awesome moment and I feel life and wrestling is all about moments and how you seize them, how you act in them, and how you succeed in the good ones and the bad. That’s the journey.

“Everything I did in my life and in my career led up to this. If that’s a brass ring…I would say the first month was kind of a brass ring moment because it was ‘okay, how do you replace arguably one of the best wrestlers in history in Bryan Danielson?’ I have to step up.

“I don’t want people to be like, ‘Well, I kinda wanted…(Danielson).’ To be able to pull that off, then go into Blood & Guts. To me, this is great and a fantastic challenge. If this is the culmination of my brass ring month then it’s a good one.”

Danielson is now the only active member of the Blackpool Combat Club without a title, as Jon Moxley is the current interim AEW World Champion, Wheeler Yuta holds the ROH Pure Title, and Castagnoli is the new ROH World Champion.

At Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen, Danielson will return to the ring for the first time since Double or Nothing to face Daniel Garcia. Jon Moxley will also defend his interim World Title against RUSH during the special.
