Clue You May Have Missed That Cody Rhodes Is Joining WWE AEW

Today’s the day…maybe! We’ve heard various reports that Cody Rhodes was about to re-debut for WWE, only to be disappointed, but if it’s actually going to happen, then it’s probably going to be today.

According to Dave Meltzer, WWE’s plan was for Rhodes to return tonight on Raw, as the show is being taped in Jacksonville Florida, the home of AEW. The idea was then to build Rhodes for a match with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.

While there has been no confirmation Rhodes has actually signed with WWE, and Fightful Select reports Cody has several contract offers, we may have been ignoring a clue as to his final destination.

As you may know, WWE doesn’t like it when wrestlers are too similar, and one of the similarities WWE tends to try and avoid is wrestlers having the same finisher.

Cody Rhodes’ finisher is the Cross Rhodes, a move pretty much identical to Damian Priest’s Reckoning finisher. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed Priest didn’t use the move on last week’s Raw.

Fightful Select specifically reports that one producer backstage in WWE “says they don’t believe that could be an accident”.

While this is far from a confirmation, it could very well be that Priest has been asked to stop using the move to avoid comparisons with Cody, should he return to WWE.

Fightful also noted at least one of AEW’s EVPs they spoke to felt Cody would sign or already has signed with WWE, and will be having a match with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.
