CM Punk has opened up about main eventing WWE WrestleMania 42, one year after closing the show for the first time in his career.
In what was the eighth WrestleMania of his WWE career, CM Punk closed the show for the very first time at Night One of WrestleMania 41.
One year on from taking on Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a three-way, Punk will get that same honor once again, only this time he will be taking on just Reigns one-on-one, walking in World Heavyweight Champion and closing out Night Two of “The Show of Shows.”
Speaking with SHAK Wrestling, Punk was asked if he feels he appreciates the honor of main eventing WrestleMania now more than he would have during his first run in WWE.
While he feels it’s probably “sweeter” now, he admits that that could be “recency bias” talking:
“I think the juice is worth the squeeze right? It was probably sweeter because it was something that I had like acquiesced in my brain that was never going to happen.
“So, coming back and being able to climb that mountain and plant my flag on the top of it, it made it much sweeter. Recency bias though, it’s still pretty fresh. It was last year. I’m still riding that high, I’m riding that wave.”

Punk continued, admitting that if he had reached the milestone of headlining WrestleMania during his first run in WWE, he may not have wanted to return to the company at all:
“If it had happened 10, 15 years ago, there’s probably a big part of me that might have never come back because there wasn’t anything on the horizon for me to conquer, no mountain to climb.”

Main Eventing Second-Straight WrestleMania “Still A Big Deal To Me” Says CM Punk
While he’s already ticked off main eventing WrestleMania from his pro wrestling career bucket list, that doesn’t mean that Punk is any less appreciative of doing it again this year at WrestleMania 42 against Roman Reigns.
Punk explained:
“Same thing. WrestleMania is and always will be the pinnacle, top shelf show in pro wrestling. Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, those are the guys that were always talking about and hovering around the main event when I was watching.
“And I kind of developed that same attitude, like the best guys main event the biggest show, so to do it once was sweet, do it back-to-back years.
“It’s like being on the cover of the video game for a second time, it’s still a big deal to me.”
