WWE has shared CM Punk’s comments about potential retirement immediately following his Undisputed WWE Championship victory.

On last week’s WWE Raw in Chicago, CM Punk made his return to WWE television for the first time since WrestleMania 42, when he defeated Sami Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Sami was initially set to face Cody Rhodes for the title, though Cody was taken out by Gunther at the beginning of the show, and deemed unable to compete.

CM Punk Gives Immediate Comments After WWE Championship Victory

In a new video uploaded by WWE going behind the scenes of Punk’s WWE return, Punk gave his immediate comments following the win, where he discussed his potential retirement after John Cena and AJ Styles recently retiring.

He said:

“I live for moments like this, I feel alive. I took some time away after a big loss at WrestleMania and just spent some time with my wife, and it’s a beautiful thing to be able to have the currency with the audience, to be able to come right back and pick up where we left off.

“I don’t believe in luck, I’m not religious, I’m just fortunate, but it’s also because I paid the price everyday. I will pay that price until the wallet’s empty.

“Every situation is different, and history doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme. It’s a testament to a guy like Sami Zayn, prior to this the opponent was John Cena. We watched Cena retire, we watched AJ Styles retire, and I feel like everyone’s now looking at me like ‘oh when are you gonna retire?’

“But guys like me and Sami, who came up the same way, started on the indies, were told no, said watch this. Told you’d never make it here, made it here. Told you’re never gonna be anything, became something. Told you’ll never be champion, became champion. That says a lot, not just for me but for him.

“I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but I think he would agree we’re in a foxhole to some extent. It’s about the guy next to you, it’s about the kids coming up, and I am at the point where I’m watching my contemporaries retire, and it almost keeps me motivated to say you know what I’m still here.

“I feel like I’m operating on that high level, I feel like I’ve never been better, why would I step away? People talk about it, but people like to talk about CM Punk, because CM Punk is money, that’s a fact. CM Punk is the champion of the universe now apparently, that’s a fact.”

CM Punk Turning Heel During WWE Championship Run?

Following his victory on last week’s Raw, many fans have been speculating about a potential heel turn for CM Punk, potentially in his match with Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam.

It was reported that Punk’s reign was expected to be a ‘lengthy one’ following the victory, which would lead to the belief that he will defeat Cody at SummerSlam to continue to reign as SmackDown’s top champion.

Since his return in 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for Punk to finally turn, with many viewing it as his better role, but he’s arguably still too popular for it to work effectively.
