When AEW booked a show for Long Island, many fans were wondering what sort of reaction hometown “hero” Maxwell Jacob Friedman would get, with him being kind of a douchebag and all.
Well we got our answer on tonight’s (December 8) AEW Dynamite, as MJF’s music hit to open the show to a loud cheer, before CM Punk came out to the song to a chorus of boos.
Punk got into the ring and cut a heel promo on the Long Island crowd and MJF, saying that he’s their guy and he feels sorry for them, and sporting a Four Pillars T-Shirt with MJF edited out for Britt Baker.
Punk continued to insult Long Island’s sports teams, and said that everyone in Long Island is ‘chicken sh*t’ if MJF is their guy.
It should be noted that this shouldn’t be considered a double turn, and was simply AEW playing to the Long Island crowd and the babyface reaction MJF was to receive.
During the promo, CM Punk declared interest in the AEW World Championship for the first time, saying that either he or MJF should be next in line after Bryan Danielson and Adam Page’s match for the title next week at Winter Is Coming.
