An update has emerged on WWE’s plans for CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre rivalry, with a planned match date now revealed.
Despite Punk being out of action with a tricep injury since January, he and McIntyre currently have one of the hottest rivalries in WWE.
Following McIntyre attacking CM Punk physically on the January 29 Raw episode, and mentally across social media, Punk has cost McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on numerous occasions, at WrestleMania 40, Clash at the Castle, and most recently at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, when Punk cost McIntyre the match after he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Per Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are now plans for this match to take place at SummerSlam on August 3.
Explaining that while this match isn’t a 100% certainty, it’s now “more than a hope”, Meltzer stated:
“Right now, it is not one hundred percent as far as (CM) Punk vs Drew (McIntyre) at SummerSlam, but I was told that it is probable.
“I was pretty much told that they’re pretty confident in it but they can’t go and say one hundred percent because it isn’t one hundred percent, but it’s been the hope, but it’s now more than a hope, now it’s a plan.”

The uncertainty surrounding this match has always been down to CM Punk’s injury, with Punk requiring surgery after tearing his tricep in January’s Royal Rumble match.
