CM Punk has opened up on main eventing WrestleMania, and how he probably wouldn’t have returned to WWE if he did it during his first run.
CM Punk main evented WrestleMania for the first time in his career last year, when he, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins faced off in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Saturday.
While Punk didn’t score the win in the match, he made sure to soak in the moment after the fact, with him finally getting his WrestleMania main event almost 20 years after his WWE debut.
CM Punk Opens Up On WrestleMania Main Event
Speaking on WWE Now, Punk reflected on his WrestleMania main event last year, and how he believes that he probably wouldn’t have come back to WWE if he had main evented WrestleMania during his first run.
He said:
“If you think about this, if I main evented WrestleMania before I left, I don’t think I would have come back, because I would have done it. What am I coming back for?
“It’s a little weird, ‘everything happens for a reason’, it’s just one of those things.
“I did it last year, and there’s that moment on Unreal, and there’s always cameras on us but I didn’t know they were shooting me in that moment, that moment was just me, standing in the ring, after the fact. I didn’t win, and it’s far beyond being about that.
“I was just standing in the ring by myself, and I was looking at all four sides of the crowd, and I can tell there’s people from numerous different countries, and I’m just kinda looking around, all four sides, just soaking it in. ‘If this is the last time I’m ever gonna be in the ring, I did it’.”

Who Will Win CM Punk Vs. Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 42?
With over a week to go until WrestleMania 42, many fans have been looking ahead to the show, and the main event showdown between CM Punk and Roman Reigns.
It has now been two years since Roman held world championship gold in WWE, but there are a number of potential avenues for WWE to leave WrestleMania without him capturing the title in Las Vegas.
The Usos have been getting involved with Roman and Punk on WWE television in recent weeks, with a potential Jey Uso heel turn being an avenue WWE could go down to give Roman an out in defeat.
CM Punk continues to do great work with the title, and with more names waiting in the wing for Punk to face, it would make sense for him to leave Vegas as World Heavyweight Champion.
