CM Punk answered some questions via a live stream on social media. One of those questions was what he thought about Drew McIntyre as champion.
Punk is usually one to have unique takes on situations. He congratulated Drew, but also had some advice for him:

Punk basically thinks McIntyre needs to quit talking negatively about himself from before he left WWE and went on a great run on the independent scene.
“What about Drew McIntyre as the new champ? Good for him, congratulations Drew McIntyre! I wish he would stop being so negative about himself, I see him say all kinds of things, nasty things about him, like if he had been given an opportunity a few years ago, saying he would have sucked. That’s no attitude to have.”
I get what Punk is saying. You don’t need to sell yourself short.
However, Drew is trying to tell the story that he learned a lot about himself by going out and wrestling outside of WWE. He wouldn’t be as good now if he hadn’t had that opportunity.
I believe Drew is trying to tell the story of making the most of when situations don’t work out the way you want them too. However, in a business of self-promotion, it might not be the smartest thing to do.
On the other hand, he did just main event WrestleMania. So, he’s doing something right!
