CM Punk On NXT Fight Pit Match: ‘I Liked It And Hated It’

NXT recently put on their first Fight Pit match. Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher walked into the structure and Thatcher walked out victorious. Now, CM Punk has revealed what he thought of the match.

Appearing on WWE Backstage, Punk said that he was both a fan of the match and not a fan of it as well. Here is the full quote, courtesy of Fightful:

“I liked it and hated it. Shocking, right? When I hear fight pit, I’m not thinking a wrestling cage match. I didn’t need the platform on the top. Sometimes they do different things just to do different things. These two could have gone out there, taken the ropes off the ring, and a worked shoot fight. It’s a hard style to work. There were some elements I liked and they did things well, some elements I didn’t like. It’s difficult to do in sports entertainment. I appreciated Riddle giving Thatcher the rub. There’s some interesting things for Riddle on SmackDown.”

Matt Riddle is now set to join the main roster. It was announced last week that he would be joining the SmackDown brand, meaning this was likely his final appearance on NXT.
