CM Punk Reacts To Powerhouse Hobbs WWE Name Change To Royce Keys WWE

CM Punk has reacted to Powerhouse Hobbs’ name change to Royce Keys after joining WWE following his AEW departure.

When Royce Keys debuted at the Royal Rumble this past Saturday, the on-screen graphics specifically acknowledged that he was formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs, before switching to his new name Royce Keys.

Some fans disliked the change, and now WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has issued a response.

On the No-Contest Wrestling show, Punk said:

“Wrestling fans are so interesting because they complain about everything. Powerhouse Hobbs – cool name, right? This is a new start. And I think Royce Keys is a pretty badass name. Everyone’s immediately gonna poo-poo on it because they’re used to Hobbs as the status quo.

“People will always not like new things, but then they’ll demand new things. ‘We need new talent,’ okay, we give you new talent, but then they sour on them.

“Stephanie Vaquer. Put the belt on her, immediately people are like (grumbling). Joe Hendry just won the NXT Title. People are already being like, ‘Oh this Joe Hendry title run, getting a little long in the tooth…’

“It’s just like, sometimes – and I’m a wrestling fan too so I’ll go ahead and include myself in this so people don’t think I’m picking on them – but sometimes we’re our worst enemies.”

In the same interview, Punk was asked if he had any regrets about being away from WWE for 10 years. He replied:

“If Vince was still here I don’t think anything was ever gonna change, for me at least. So, no. Can I think about, ‘Man, this 10 years, I coulda worked with AJ a whole bunch, I could have done more with Cena…’ I think I did pretty good.

“Tribal Chief says he graciously scaled back for two years? Well I graciously stepped back for 10, and it took him that long to become the superstar that he is. So I’ve got no regrets.”
